Bunkhouses and Reservations

There are 6 one room concrete floor bunkhouses that have metal framed bunk beds with no mattresses. They have a wood board only, so you will need to bring your own mattress pad and bedding. The 6 bunkhouses have 55 total sleeping spots and reservations will open for one of the 55 bunkhouse spots in the early spring. Priority will be given to the Moose 100 runners, then the Grizzly 50 runners and finally the Big Elk Marathon & Big Elk Half Marathoners. The cost is $5 per night per bed. We will open up reservations in the spring. There will be male and female only bunkhouses out of respect for privacy.

Tent Sites

We will have numerous tent sites available on a first come first serve basis and no fee. There are no fires allowed except in the main campfire area. Camp stoves are allowed. There are no picnic tables or benches so bring your own camp tables or chairs.

Bathroom, water, and Shower Facilities

There are a couple showers, toilets and sinks with running water in the bathhouses. We will have porta pottys to help provide additional capacity at peak times.

Offsite Accommodations

Forest Service Facilities (Big Elk Creek) Directly across the creek from the YMCA Camp is a fee Forest Service campground. You will drive through the camp ground on your way into the YMCA location. There are single site first come first serve spots for tents or trailers. There are also group reservation sites that open for reservation starting in 2018. Click here for more information and reservations.

Really looking to dirtbag it? There are multiple open campsites that have no facilities in neighboring canyons all on public Forest Service land. July is a busy time for camping in Idaho so come early to find a good spot.

Want actual lodging facilities? You can do a Google search for “Palisades”, “Irwin”, “Swan Valley” or “Alpine” lodging to locate facilities close to the race. We will be located on Big Elk Creek Road for a point of reference. Book early as July is a popular time for rentals in the area. There are national chain hotels located within an hour in either Jackson, Wyoming or Idaho Falls. Multiple RV sites are in the area as well, a simple Google search will help locate these.

Travel

Idaho Falls Regional Airport and the Jackson Hole Airport are the closest major airports to fly into within about an hours drive of Big Elk Creek. Salt Lake City International may be the cheapest option with a car rental and a 4 hour drive.
