Main Lodge 

Located at the YMCA Big Elk Lodge in Irwin, ID

The main lodge, with the wood steps and bell out front, is the largest building with a meeting hall and kitchen. This is the Race Headquarters. The start/finish area, pre-race meeting spot, packet pickup and race check-in are all located here. After crossing the bridge and coming into the camp you will see the lodge up to the north (left) and parking will be to the south (right).

Thursday: July 20th 1:00 pm The gates open and you can arrive onsite and setup your camp/lodging, priority given to 100 Milers. If you arrive before that, especially Wednesday, you will be turned away.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Bunkhouses & Reservations

There are 6 one-room concrete floor bunkhouses that have metal-framed bunk beds with no mattresses. They have a wood board only, so you will need to bring your own mattress pad and bedding. 50 spots available with priority given to 100-milers. No heat and no electricity.


 

 

TENT SITES

We will have numerous tent sites available on a first-come-first-serve basis and no fee. There are PLENTY of sites available. There are no fires allowed except in the main campfire area. Camp stoves are allowed. There are no picnic tables or benches so bring your own camp tables or chairs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BATHROOM, WATER, AND SHOWER FACILITIES

There are a couple of showers, toilets, and sinks with running water in the bathhouses. Hot water is limited. We will have porta potties to help provide additional capacity at peak times. There is no available electricity, please plan accordingly. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OFFSITE ACCOMMODATIONS

Forest Service Facilities (Big Elk Creek) Directly across the creek from the YMCA Camp is a fee Forest Service campground. You will drive through the campground on your way to the YMCA location. There are single site first come first serve spots for tents or trailers. There are also group reservation sites that open for reservation starting. Click here for more information and reservations.

 

Really looking to dirtbag it? 

There are multiple open campsites that have no facilities in neighboring canyons all on public Forest Service land. July is a busy time for camping in Idaho so come early to find a good spot. Indian Creek is a great canyon to consider.

 

Want actual lodging facilities? 

You can do a Google search for “Palisades”, “Irwin”, “Swan Valley” or “Alpine” lodging to locate facilities close to the race. We will be located on Big Elk Creek Road for a point of reference. Book early as July is a popular time for rentals in the area. There are national chain hotels located within an hour in either Jackson, Wyoming or Idaho Falls. Multiple RV sites are in the area as well, a simple Google search will help locate these.


Travel

Idaho Falls Regional Airport and the Jackson Hole Airport are the closest major airports to fly into within about an hours drive of Big Elk Creek. Salt Lake City International may be the cheapest option with a car rental and a 4-hour drive.

 

Gas Food Restaurants

Within 16 miles of Big Elk Creek, there are gas stations and restaurants. You can head down to Alpine (on the way to Jackson) or up to Irwin or Swan Valley (on the way to Idaho Falls.)
